Featured Car Club: Over the Hill Gang of Apple Valley
February 15, 2019
We’re happy to announce that the Over the Hill Gang – Apple Valley will be our featured car club at the Pomona Swap Meet on Sunday, March 3rd. Whether you’re interested in classic American muscle or modern muscle cars, station wagons or coupes, trucks or scooters, blue ovals or bow ties, the Apple Valley Chapter of the Over the Hill Gang has it!
The Apple Valley Chapter of the Over the Hill Gang was started in a garage in 1988, when a few friends decided they wanted to be in a car club. They approached the Over the Hill Gang, who gave them a charter for their new chapter. Within a year, the Apple Valley Chapter had 20 members, with monthly meetings held at a local muffler shop (Advance Performance Muffler in Hesperia, Calif.).
The Club staged their first big event, the American Graffiti Run, in 1989 at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds. To promote the event, club members built a pink ’23 Ford T Bucket to raffle off at the show. The next year, for American Graffiti 2, the members built and gave away a ’56 Chevy 210 – 2 door post!
Ever since then, the Club has been involved with numerous car shows, and they’ve helped raise over $100k for charities. For 23 years, they sponsored the Cruise for the Cure Show held at the Outlet Center in Lynwood, and the Club raised over $10k for the Cooper Home, a project through the Happy Trails Children’s Foundation, which carries on the legacy of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. They also provide $1k annually to Meals on Wheels, who delivers meals to homebound or impaired senior citizens.
If you’re in the High Desert area of Southern California and you’re interested in joining a genuinely nice group of car enthusiasts, who are committed to enjoying classic vehicles while giving back to their community, we highly recommend you come down to the Pomona Swap Meet on March 3rd to meet the Over the Hill Gang – Apple Valley! We’re looking forward to seeing them!
Low rider club that’s what I want to do
Any shows coming up?
I wish we had a car club here in Redlands. We have lots of cool cars on the streets & numerous car shows but no real car club that I’m aware of. I’m not interested in supporting charities or a religious afiliation but camaroderie & working on cars!
