If you’ve ever been to Pomona, you know we’re big supporters of the So Cal VW scene. Yes, we love ALL classic cars at the Pomona Swap Meet… but, we’ve always had a soft spot for classic Vee Dubs. And that’s why we’re so excited to have the Just Cruzin So Cal VW Club as our guests on Sunday, October 16th!

Just Cruzin got their start in 1998, with founding members Carlos “Chuck” Anaya, Victor Gonzales, Gary Tenorio, Ray Castro, Dustin Griffin, and Alfonso Ortiz. The Club attended various car shows, including the Classic and, of course, the Pomona Swap Meet. But, as is often the case, then life happened. The club took a break in 2003 after a few members got married, and some got out of VWs and into other types of cars. Victor and Chuck kept the Club going through the slow years – most of the original members still had their VWs so they would meet up every now and then for a BBQ or a small cruise.

The Club’s resurgence came in 2008. The Fontana Cruise Night had become a popular spot for classic cars, and a lot of air-cooled VWs would roll into Fontana for it. Eventually, Fontana got too crowded and the Just Cruzin crew realized they needed a Volkswagen only cruise night. In 2010, the Club started their own cruise night at Burger Town U.S.A., located at 760 North Archibald Avenue in Ontario, Calif. The Burger Town Cruise was a success and it still goes on to this day, on the first Friday of every month at 6:30 p.m.

 

In addition to their monthly cruise night, Just Cruzin participates in various events throughout the year. The Club holds an annual toy drive for Loma Linda Children’s Hospital, and this year the Club partnered with Vintage Transporter Owners (VTO) to sponsor El Prado Show & Shine 2016. El Prado has quickly become one of So Cal’s premier VW events thanks, in part, to the support of local VW clubs like Just Cruzin.

 

If you love old Volkswagens, come out to Pomona and talk to the Club on Sunday, October 16th. They’ll be posted up on the Main Aisle in our VW Car Corral, and they’re always looking for new members. Can’t make it to Pomona? Check out the Club’s Facebook page for more info. Most of the current members have pre-1967 Cali style air-cooled VWs (types 1, 2, or 3), but some members have water-cooled VWs, and some even have other collector cars or motorcycles. So long as you share the Club’s passion for the classics and have a positive attitude, the Club welcomes you!
