Zelectric Motors: Classic Volkswagens Go Electric
August 26, 2015
One of the main challenges of driving classic vehicles on a regular basis is compromising fuel efficiency on the road. While modern hybrid and fully electric cars are increasing their market share on a daily basis, there’s no denying our love for the classics… especially Volkswagens.
Fortunately, Zelectric Motors of San Diego has taken up the gauntlet to restore the timeless appeal of the Type 1 Bug, the Type 2 Bus, the Karmann Ghia, and even the Thing with upgraded mechanics to meet the demands of the 21st century. In 2012, David Benardo started Zelectric Motors with his wife and partner, Bonnie Rodgers. Zelectric Motors is car up-cycling at its best. Rather than altering the look of older cars, Benardo restores classic VWs to their former glory, with a slight twist. While the exterior and interior of the cars may be left historically intact, the gas engines are replaced with a fully electric powertrain to create what Zelectric refers to as a “retro-electric” experience. Zelectric’s primary focus started with classic Bugs from the 1950s and 60s… and their first offering was the ZelectricBug.
Zelectric Motors: air cooled classics rebuilt, and reborn electric, to motor with style in the 21st century.
Most of Zelectric Motors automobiles are built to order, allowing buyers to have their dream car transformed into a fuel efficient mpg contender that rivals modern vehicles. This also means that customers can request work on a VW that’s already in their driveway or garage. Visit Zelectric online for pricing and details!
