In Pomona, we believe all Corvettes are instant classics. Chevy hasn’t released much information about their 2015 Corvette Z06 yet, but we expect it to follow suit. They have said that it’s the most track-focused Corvette ever. But, from the teaser picture that they’ve released, all we’ve really seen are some very impressive tires! The super-sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, to be exact, which boast a dual zone, side by side tread compound. The outer compound is for dry pavement and handling, while the inner compound focuses on wet traction. Add to that the asymmetric tread design, with a huge outer shoulder rib to enhance steering, response, and cornering stability, as well as encircling grooves and independent tread blocks on the inner tread to help traction on wet pavement. The tires sit on lightweight-looking alloys, and the car sports a carbon-fiber side skirt, which should minimize the amount of air flowing under the car (and it just looks cool). The fender-flare extensions were apparently designed to help deliver supercar performance through the car’s unique power train, chassis, and aerodynamic features.

Everyone expects the new Z06 to be a huge step up from the Stingray Z51 that it’s based on. Rumors have been flying for months about the Z06’s engine… and we’re hoping for the stampeding 600hp LT4 V-8 that was spied a few weeks ago.

Th Corvette Z06 will no doubt be a fierce speed demon… and on January 13th at 9:30am (EST), at the North American International Auto Show, Chevrolet will FINALLY uncover its latest treasure! Can’t make it to Detroit? That’s okay. You can Live Stream the event.

The countdown is on!
