Have you ever got a part home from some shop that was supposed to “fit like a glove,” but upon attempting to install it,  you were left wondering what kind of fingers the seller must have if they feel that way? That’s one experience you won’t have with parts purchased from Capp’s Hot Rods. Owner Joe Caponeta has been wrenching parts on hot rods for a long time, and only recently decided that he should be repping the products he believes in. When it comes to knowing what works and what doesn’t, Joe knows. “You can pretty much build a car nowadays from aftermarket parts,” states Joe, “but a lot of the parts are junk.”

40 years of combined muscle car restoration experience has led Capp’s Hot Rods to being a respected parts dealer. They’ve learned who the quality suppliers are, and which parts work well. “I’ve been building cars for years,” said Joe, including one that won the Oakland Roadster Show in 1996. As a testament to his expertise, that same car was made into a die-cast model. Joe was pretty surprised when a friend of his called and told him that he was looking at a die-cast model of the car Joe won the show with. “Not many guys can say they’ve had a model made of their car!”, exclaimed Joe.

Joe describes wiring as one of his favorite aspects of the restoration project, but also one that’s fraught with the potential for trouble. “It’s really an important job wiring a car. Not doing it correctly can mean a lot of trouble down the road”, states Joe. So because Joe knows what he’s talking about, Capp’s Hot Rods does a lot of wiring and electrical work, including American Autowire parts. But there’s more. There’s heat shrink tubing, fans, valve covers, wheels, and then some.

“I try to steer people to the parts I think are better,” says Joe.

Capp’s Hot Rods can also handle your restoration, modification and fabrication needs. Whether it’s parts or restoration, they pride themselves on their reputation. They restore and rebuild Hot Rods, Model A’s, Deuces, 33’s and up, classic cars of all makes and models from the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and muscle cars. Like all of us, Joe’s got his favorites, but at the shop, he reminds us, “…we work on everything!”

So if you’ve got a vehicle built before 1972, chances are Capp’s Hot Rods can get you headed in the right direction and keep you from making a mistake that’ll leave you stranded down the road. Steer yourself toward Joe and Capp’s Hot Rods on Road 22, Spaces 22, 24, & 26 at the next Pomona Swap Meet, and pick up some knowledge and some quality parts. You can also learn more by visiting Capp’s website or by calling (818) 974-7530.
