Pickups Limited – October 20, 2013 Featured Car Club
October 7, 2013

If you want to see some of the coolest custom and classic Ford trucks in the West, you’ll want to check out the F-100 Western Nationals. It’s the largest all Ford truck show in the Western United States, and it’s held each June at the Canyon RV Park in Featherly Park, CA. And if you want to see a great display of Ford trucks belonging to the hosts of the show, Pickups Limited will be showing off their rides at the October 20, 2013 Pomona Swap Meet & Classic Car Show, where they will be the Featured Car Club.
Pickups Limited began in April 1968 as the result of an ad being placed in the Penny Saver. The club now has seven chapters throughout Southern California, with the Orange County Chapter being the oldest and largest. If you are an owner of a 1948-1956 F-1 or F-100 pickup or panel, this is the group to join. They are extremely active on the show and cruise circuit, and they support many local charities, with an emphasis on raising money for cancer research. Typically, they have at least one planned club outing each month.
Pickups Limited, like their trucks, is a well-oiled machine. They’re one of the few clubs that conducts an annual safety inspection. Each Spring, they gather for a 70+ point professional inspection, which includes pulling brake drums, checking for frame and suspension cracks, looking for exhaust leaks, as well as checking the lights, wipers and door locks. It’s much more enjoyable having a classic when you know it’s sound, and your biggest driving concerns are what music to play and what you’re going to eat when you reach your destination.
Besides hosting the F-100 Western Nationals, the group also produces Jeff’s Fun Run. 2014 marks their sixth year of the run, which will be held on Saturday, January 18. Visit jeffsfunrun.com for details about this great poker run, where 200 cars, trucks and motorcycles cruise car culture locales throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. You can also see Pickups Limited at numerous other events, including the annual Cruisin’ for a Cure show, in Costa Mesa, CA, where you can drool over all the beautiful paint jobs, custom interiors and immaculate engine compartments. You’ll probably be quite envious of not only their vehicles, but their nice reserved spot on the grass, as well.
If you’re interested in joining Pickups Limited, they hold monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month at 7pm, at Ken Grody Ford, 6211 Beach Blvd., Buena Park, CA 90621. If you can’t already tell how cool this club is, Ken Grody Ford lets them use their service area for the meeting, allowing them to park their vehicles inside the meeting location. Yep, pretty cool!
Come out to the October 20, 2013 Pomona Swap Meet and spend some time visiting with Pickups Limited and checking out their Ford trucks and panels. You can view their 32+ page full color newsletter and get additional club information at pickupslimited.com.
