Jack Stands: A Different Way to Retire
October 4, 2013
If relaxing on a white sand beach with a tropical drink is your idea of retirement, then your vision is extraordinarily different from that of Jose Ramos. You see, Jose would prefer to spend his retirement talking to you. Well, you and a few thousand of your car crazy friends.
At the Pomona Swap Meet, you’ll find Jose on Road 27, in spaces 88 and 90. Jose decided that retirement, in the traditional sense, just wasn’t for him. After calling it quits on his job as a truck driver, he put his feet up and relaxed. Then he got bored… and decided to find his next career.
Seeking a new way of life after spending a long time in one job might seem daunting. Jose tried a few things out, and then decided to use his connections in the auto parts wholesaling world to his (and your) advantage. Jose gathered an inventory of the things he would be interested in using in his own garage. He started going to car shows, where he would set up a booth to sell off his wares at an affordable price. Jose now offers all sorts of tools for working on your vintage ride.
A lot of shows didn’t work out for Jose. Then he found Pomona. It’s been 14 years and Jose has become a fixture here. “A lot of people look for me, or tell others that I have what they need,” says Jose.
Like what? Jack stands, engine cradles, impact wrenches, and various hand tools. Oh, and with the rainy season coming soon, you might also take note that Jose’s got all sorts of tarps. I mean, he’s got a lot of tarps!! So whether you’re protecting your project from the weather, or you need a quick fix for a leaky roof, Jose’s your guy! Give him a ring at 626-338-4086 or stop by Road 27 on October 20th!
We know that more than a few of the people who share our love of classic cars have already retired, or will soon. If you’re like Jose, those palm trees and rum drinks will just have to wait because retirement means spending time finding the right tool for the job… and covering people’s assets. With a tarp. A lot of tarps.
