As we say “so long and happy trails” to our April Featured Car Club, the So Cal Broncos, it seems fitting to welcome another group of trail loving classic car enthusiasts to the Pomona Swap Meet & Classic Car Show. This group also enjoys spending their weekends cruising their classics together on some of the same rugged terrain as their Bronco counterparts. Scouts West was organized to bring together and promote interest in off-roading, preserving, restoring, and enjoying all of the products of International Harvester Corporation, including but not limited to Scouts and Light Line Trucks. Scouts West was formed in 1987 and have been enjoying the mountains and deserts of Southern California ever since. They have 3 chapters; Main Chapter, Grapevine Chapter, and San Diego Chapter. They are not a club that you’ll regularly find polishing their classics at the local show ‘n shine. You will, however, find them enjoying the numerous off-roading excursions that they plan throughout the year. The group enjoys all types of wheeling, including rock crawling, sand dunes and day trips to local four wheel drive and off-road areas. Scouts West’s annual event, The International Harvester Western Regional’s (IHWR), is held in mid-April, in the Calico Ghost Town area outside of Barstow, CA. Scouts West is also involved in the San Bernardino National Forest’s Adopt-a-Trail program, where they have 2 adopted trails, 1N34 Cucamonga Truck Trail/Joe Elliott Campground and 7S02 Santa Rosa Truck Trail, where members volunteer several hundred hours a year, helping to keep these trails open and maintained. We appreciate all that car clubs do to give back to the community, whether it be the on or off-road community. For more club info, visit their website at www.scoutswest.com and come check out their club vehicles at the June 2, 2013 Pomona Swap Meet, where they will be one of our Featured Car Clubs. You’ll probably learn plenty about the unique International Scout and you may find yourself wanting to join them on their next off-road adventure. Scouts West 4 scouts West 5
