If you’ve decided you want a Corvette but are not sure what year is “your” year, here’s some information to help you out.

Corvettes have been around since 1953. Over the past several decades these cars have gone through several major changes, as is to be expected. Sometimes the body style received a major overhaul and other years the best changes were mechanical. So maybe you want to know, how do you hit that sweet spot of getting a classic Corvette with the perfect body style and a proper rumble under the hood?

We’ve found some information on the net to help you get started in finding your match.

While this document doesn’t go all the way back to ’53, it’s an excellent outline of how the offerings have changed over the years. Beware, scrolling through will leave you with a serious case of “I need that—right now!”

The kind folks over at Edmunds.com have put together an excellent synopsis of all the mechanical and style changes to the car. Not as many pictures, but great information.

If you want to hear from other Corvette owners, here are the results of a poll from 2011 and published by Corvette Fever. The survey lists the top ten Corvettes.

And for history buffs who love time-lines, this one’s just for you. Great for quick style comparisons.

Here are a few major changes to look out for:

  • 1955 – Small block V8 available.
  • 1963 – Introduction of the Sting Ray and an independent rear suspension.
  • 1968 – Introduction of the Mako Shark.
  • 1984 – Scientific Corvettes.
  • 1997 – World Beater – Biggest change since ’53, engine in the front, transmission in the back.

Of course, the best way to find your ride is to come down to the next Pomona Swap Meet and see the cars in person. Just be careful, Corvette owners are passionate about their favorites…and it’s contagious. Contact us for more information.
