Back when many of our cars gleamed in the showroom, the starters and alternators that came on them were more than up to the challenge of handling their jobs. But in the ensuing decades so much has changed, including the demand we place on the starters and alternators. For example, imagine adding some air bags or that incredible audio system or even a cell phone charger. All those things take power. Oh, and don’t even insinuate that you haven’t done some things to that engine to increase compression and horsepower – come on.

The point of all this is that we recently caught-up with Ron Van Arsdall & Rich Mankins of Quality Power, who have a solution to your power-drawing problems, with production of higher-capacity alternators and starters. Being a smaller operation, they keep a very close eye on the quality of their parts. In fact, they make the entire starter or alternator from start to finish. This means that not only do they keep an eye on the quality, but they also keep the prices fair. Oh, and for those of you with the fanciest of under-hoods, they offer billet-case alternators as well. Forget keeping up with the Joneses, this will blow them right out of the water.

In speaking with Ron Van Arsdall, it became obvious that he and his partner Rich have a passion for the car business and the products they manufacture. “We make starters for just about anything 12 volt – and these are mini high torque starters,” said Van Arsdall. One of the advantages of their starters is that they’re much smaller than the original starter. So if a builder is finding it difficult to route headers or other modifications, a smaller higher-capacity starter might be just the solution to that problem. The duo really finds enjoyment in solving auto electric problems and they pride themselves on providing a lot of technical assistance. What is more, they’ve both been in the auto repair business, Ron is a Master ASE tech, and Rich is an electrical expert. “We can help people and save them money,” asserts Ron.

You can find Quality Power at the Pomona Swap Meet where they have been vendors since 1992.  They will be located on Road 24, Spaces 52, 54 and 56. “We’ve made all sorts of friends – repeat customers are the reason we keep coming back,” states Ron.
